What am I and where am I?

I was established in the early 1800s and my location has had two names throughout history, I am now called by my original name again.

What am I and where am I?

In addition to shipbuilding, the harvesting of timber was prominent.
I am an island, two to be precise
I had a short life of eleven years
I could not support the growing of food, malnutrition, dysentery and scurvy were rife.

Thats correct Goldierocks, Macquarie Harbor Penal Settlement, consisting of Sarah Island, also called Settlement island for some years, the second island was Grummet, it had no buildings but prisoners were sent there as solitary confinement punishment.

As Goldierocks is out of commission, Ill hand it over to Rockhunter, all yours Doug.
