Named partly after the first Warden of 'The' goldfield and partly after the granite outcrops that occur in the area,(A Cornish word - Tors).

Mr William Skelton Ewbank Melbourne Charters, and Cornish Tors of course -Towers.
Indeed, until changed thru usage it was known as Charters Tors.
