Frederick Wordsworth Ward(1835 25 May 1870), better known by theself-styledpseudonymofCaptain Thunderbolt, was anAustralian bushrangerrenowned for escaping fromCockatoo Island, and also for his reputation as the "gentleman bushranger" and his lengthy survival, being the longest roaming bushranger in Australian history.[1]

Well there you go, I have about half a dozen two speeds and never knew he invented them. I will have to file that bit of info away for the fishing forums.
