Are these authentic?

They would have to be genuine, also selling perth mint gold/silver coins, genuine sovereigns etc. Roman coins aren't as rare as one might think, you only have to read through some of the UK detecting mags to see how many are regularly up for sale.

Remember that price is for just one coin and the display case, not for the whole set. You have to purchase the others seperately.

Well, Macquarie Mint are saying they are genuine and quote the minting dates.

If they were fakes, they could be in a lot of trouble by advertising them as real. Doubt very much that a big mob such as this would put themselves in a position to be prosecuted. They have far too much to lose.

Well If they know the Minting Dates then they are copies, because the real coins would be 16-1700 years old and they would have no way of knowing the minting dates.

Dunno John, the old romans kept scrupulous records back then that are supposed to have survived to this day, thats why we know an awful lot about those womans ! :Y:

The minting is an approximate it seems. Probably the head on the coin tells them is my guess.

when roman coins are cleaned they never come up that clean and end up quite pitted because the silver is close to 100% Silver and is very soft, I have silver coins that are between 400 and 760 years old and they just don't come up like that.

Those flat surfaces either side of the head are perfect/uniform/flat, more like how modern coins are, Roman coins were struck with a Die and Hammer, Milled coins never came out until 1550 in france and in the UK in 1560.

John.

Just like any coin if it is not rare it is not worth much. Thousands of sovereigns around the world are only worth their weight in gold. Plenty of roman silver coins available for less than $99 and plenty that look better than these.

John I think unless you know you should not post on this stuff as the Macquaire mint is a reputable dealer and I see no reason to doubt the authenticity of these coins.

Well Finding Roman coins is something I do know something about where I go detecting and I have found as many as 8 in an afternoon, If they are real which I doubt ? But I would be more worried about where they are getting them from,

I have never seen any come out of the ground looking like that, But you can buy copies of them from museums over here and from English Heritage.

Yes mate, Only last month someone posted about Fake Gold Ingots from the same company using the MINTS Good Name to trick people into believing that they were genuine.

I may not of found many nuggets over here but I have dug up a few Roman coins since I came over here and a few 12th century coins as well. I have even found a Genuine Roman fake Coin that is over 1600 years old, So these coins are no stranger to me.

Sweet - You must be stoked being able to dig up roman coins.

(Swords knives shields?)

Maybe they're from a shipwreck or two ,... minted then dipped for a few thousand years. :)
