You raise a very good point Rath. I think the resurgence in ANZAC Day does give us some hope though. I remember as a kid in Melbourne, the trams stopped on 11/11 at 11 in fact the whole city mostly stopped. Times have changed but at least the majority of people make an effort both on 11/11 and 25/4. I drive past the Shrine in Melborune every couple of days and it is always busy - I guess other cities and towns are the same. As long as we teach our kids and grandkids that it is not a glorification of war but rather the remembrance of all those people who have served and who have died then we will leave the world a better place.

I didn't make the dawn service in Glen Innes this year but saw the pre-sun rise shadows flicker over some nearby mountains and said thanks to those who stationed themselves to fight for freedom and endured the torment, anticipation and trickery of the changing dawn light and the uncertainty of an unfolding day.

Lest we forget.

We had a dawn service on site. I was lucky enough to be asked to take part as the flag raiser.

Thanks Dad and all your brothers and sisters in arms who fought for us. And to all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

"We will remember them."
