Check out the earth resources website and make sure your good to go or if it's on The Exempt list. By having a look at the website you'll get an idea of how many rivers and streams are on the exempt list, it's amazing how many are.
been there and saw lots and lots of pyrite glitter and no gold found... 
I would suggest it was biotite flakes out of the granite, which weathers to a golden colour in creeks. Pyrite has already weathered to brown iron oxides in the soil before it reaches creeks.casper said:been there and saw lots and lots of pyrite glitter and no gold found...
I think there is a bot of gold around the area (eg Tin Mine Creek) but it was never very productive.
