Hi There we are the latest victim of old fever, me and my 2 boys 7 and 9 years have recently been lured into fossicking and we are enjoying it very much....keeps them off the bloody ipads and crap . I have took them up to Nundle last weekend and panned a few good specks of flour out of the creek behind the caravan park...they were wrapped and now planning our next trip. We live near Cessnock NSW and have been taking to some old timers who recon there was talk of gold in the creeks around Wollombi?? I have done some scouting around the place but no real luck....has any one ever taken a good look around this area?

Just bought a little EZ Sluice that Nugget talks about...man it looks so much bigger on the website but cant wait to use it.

Hi parkerschnabel, it's good to hear you're getting in some quality time with your boys.

I'll take a look at the known gold deposit maps (Google Earth Overlay) tomorrow and post back with my findings. I've heard similar stories from various people but I don't think there's anything (worthy) in the area, I'm happy to be proven wrong though :)

And although smaller than you imagined, the EZ Sluice is a great unit for low volume processing in slower flowing streams and it's easy to use.

Thanks Nugget, Cant wait to give the EZ a go, also is the turbo pan the way to go or just stick to a basic model? Any info you have would be great.

No problem.

Pan selection really comes down to personal preference and what you find works best for you, my favorite is the Garrett 15" SuperSluice http://www.garrettaustralia.com.au/15-supersluice-pan.

I've used a Turbopan before (not for very long though) and plan on giving it decent test run soon. They're quite different to use over the more traditional models as a different action / motion is needed, but from what I've heard and seen I believe they're very efficient once you get the hang of them. There's videos online of guys doing cleanups in just seconds which is quite impressive.

If you decide to come out to the Nundle trip over October 25th - 27th you can try both pans out for yourself.
