Hi Meller, I may be wrong but I think the owner of the electronics shop in Mareeba may be able to rent a machine for you if you to try if you are serious about buying. He had a sdc 2300 and 4500 from memory.

Sorry 227Dick, it appears my attempt at sarcasm and humour did not convey correctly on this medium. I was trying to underhandely acknowledge everyone taking the time to reply with their recommendations for the 4500 or similar. :Y:

I just came back from a quick trip into see Pete @ Cairns Prospecting world for a hands on demo. I dont like the SDC2300 ergonomics, weight and appearance despite its reputed ability and with only ~$100 difference between the SDC and the 4500 package deal with included extras the decision was clear.

But i still couldnt walk past the NOX 800. What a cute little gadget.

So the wife is getting a NOX800 for her birthday and I am getting the 4500 with extras for mine. Win win.

So wheres this gold at ey?? :)

My wife's birthday is coming up. She wanted a new couch, pretty dress and pretty tree for the garden but now think she really needs a reloading kit, sako 223, night hunting scope and quad bike :p

Now that's the kind of birthday shopping I like as a matter of fact it's the only shopping I like :Y:.

The 2300 is a little ripper on the small gold and for that matter any gold within its capabilities. Never used a 4500 but do use a 5000 the GPX are a great machine with the right set up in all ground with the bonus of variable depth and interchangeable coils. Having one of each is great but if you can only afford one neither will disappoint :Y:.

Nice scope but that massive tripod is making me feel a bit inadequate about my little Harris  Bolt action is enough for the shooting I do. Mainly foxes from 100 to 200 meters approx .

Yeah, bud, when I'm finished with the S6, I just chuck it behind the shed...
Grab it when I need it... bloody weeds....
Then there's the M4a1
The PDW....
The AK..... ;)

Actually relieved to identify some shooters on here. I knew madtuna was on here from AHN, but happy to see others and not have my threads moderated due to firearms. :p

This is not a hunting forum though I used to do a lot of shooting too, anyway I can't say that your kill pictures won't be moderated, if we get a complaint we have to act on it. If they are clean kills, not too grisly and for food then it's generally ok, and please not too many, a few are ok in your own thread.

Cheers

poor kitty

and was the horse a major threat to you 8) 8)

this is a prospecting forum ;)

i find photo's of needlessly dead things as quite inappropriate on these pages 8.( 8.(

if i want to see dead things i will google them :)

rant over

I'd like to know how you got a licence for the weapons   .They look semi auto to me.I know it's possible so I assume you passed all the requirments. But ts just not possible for the recriational hunter..:So I also Assume your not just a recreational hunter.Y: :Y:  :D..Nice pig by the way :Y:

Nothing illegal about it if you have the right licence, but perhaps we could start a hunting and shooting area for these posts so people dont inadvertently see what offends them. I was brought up hunting and eating game so to me its just anouther normal outdoor activity.

Understood, Best take em down then mate. I didnt realise i couldnt self moderate after a certain timeframe.

I got caught upwith the OT chat and thought, perhaps mistakenly, that prospectors being fellow bush users would be sympathetic to the ecological and financial damage these pest animals make to our flora and fauna and the follow on impacts this has for our rurual industries.

Im not here to ruffle anyones sympathies or pettycoats. I graceously recieved the advice i was sekking. Thank you all.

@smokybandit Yes. A Professional contractor mate.

this is a prospecting site :Y: not a hunting site ;)

no ruffling here ;)

as i said , if i want to see dead things , i'm sure there are "other" forum's to see them ;)

All good ctxkid. You are right, there are other platforms for that. I forget that not everyone deals with these sorts of things daily and as such have no need to be exposed to it.

Hopefully a mod sees this shortly and can ammend accordingly.

In on topic news, i should be able to have my first swings this afternoon and try and find some goldies with the NOX :Y:

Yep, lots of licenses, paperwork, applications, qualifications and justifications to make sure it is all legitimate. We specialise in a lot of high risk contracts requiring specialist equipment and methodologies. Especially when it comes to doing helicopter shooting in semi-suburban environments etc.

As a general statement for the greater audience in the future, Its not all about the killing though. A lot of our contracts are based around active conservation, working on saving turtle nests from predation, or Cassowary habitat protection or prevention of extinction of other native fauna. A lot of hype about Northern quolls atm and i am proud of the work we have contributed on these projects. :Y:

I think i like this hobby.... half hour run-down on the NOX800 with a mate (using a garret AT gold?) on how to run it, then into it. Target was gold coins on my local smallish private residents onlyish beach.

$104 in just under an hour. Beach mode with everything but 19-25 blocked. Sensitivity 15.
My mate doesnt want me back.... he only got $12 :Y:
