I've been collecting a bit of rock left behind by the old timers in the ore paddocks of their shafts. this stuff has probably come from upper level of the ore body & been laying around on the surface for nearly 80 years. I haven't been able to take some good pictures until now. I am hoping that the Geos on here can tell me what the yellow / green encrustation is in the weathered/oxidized areas of this ore.

There is a speck of gold showing on the above speccie but I dont think it will show up on the resized image.
The next specimen is from the same area but a different line of workings.

I've got a fair idea of what the mineral encrustations may be but was just looking or confirmation or otherwise from those more knowledgable.

G'day Jethro

Yep it is quartz and iron oxides and sulphates (probably) after iron sulphide - pyrite. Looks as if some may be also after arsenopyrite. that would have been the vein they were mining. Give it a crush in a dolly pot and pan it off.

Araluen

Yes araluen the larger specie on the left in the second pic is at least 50 % pyrite & Arsenopyrite. The one on the right has a lot of Arsenopyrite showing on the back side. I am wondering what arsenopyrite weathers to.
I have about 2 buckets full of the ore from the first pic. I have crushed a bit but have decided to wait until I have my impact mill up and running.
