Good point AM. Many start without the pin pointer and buy it later. Perhaps with proceeds of what they find detecting.

From all the videos I'm watching online, the pin pointer seems to be a must? Even though I'm a newby to this game, it makes sense to me to have it. Am I wrong?

Not a MUST but VERY VERY useful. I wouldn't be without one. I didn't have one when I started out. My Garrett is playing up, seems a common problem. I'm thinking of buying a new one but haven't decided which one. Hoping the new Garrett model has the issues resolved.

At this stage of the game I'm still drawn to the "Garrett" hand held pin pointer. The reason being, I haven't yet seen a single video on YouTube showing anyone using a Deteknix. Call me naive, but I'm just going with the majority at the moment. Still open to suggestions..
