Everyone talks [complains] about the weather, however nobody ever does anything about it.

Attributed to Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens), it possibly should be attributed to Charles Dudley Warner who was a well-known author and editor in the 1800s, and was a neighbor, good friend, and collaborator with Mark Twain.

But we did! We discovered carbon dioxide then abolished it (tongue in cheek)

It's a bit like famines and pandemics IMO, nature's way of population control, but sadly humans have found a way to overcome them and we now have more people than the planet can accommodate.

Ye, usually when a species becomes overpopulated it gets culled. Fortunately other factors indicate that world population will go into decline within a century - only parts of Africa, India and the Middle East will be increasing still after 2050-2100,

And ironically some of those countries would probably benefit from a decline in population.
But what we are seeing is large scale redistribution of population by refugees, economic and other. 45 million at present, which is why a number of countries are getting upset (in the past they have had far less impact in smaller numbers, often positive - Australia's population would have been in decline for decades otherwise). I am sympathetic towards those seeking asylum but the reality is that huge numbers can be disruptive and sadly causes a backlash.

What is interesting is that it only requires a modest increase in standard of living to decrease populations - Indonesia is a good example, where the birthrate has dropped to only slightly higher than the USA. A major factor seems to be women getting at least a complete primary and a couple of years secondary education. They then control their fertility and also often are good at managing family finances in the Third World.

Two of the (relatively) easiest changes, could radically change our world for the better;

Basic education for ALL, including basic science literacy. As part of that education, teach people some critical thinking skills.

Give women and girls control over their reproductive rights.

Women make up more than 50% of the population - imagine if we had them working on the worlds problems instead of trying to feed too many hungry mouths?

Sorry, rant over.
