Stick to maths science and English..History...Im sure theres more productive things to teach our kids than how to detect ....or how to use a detector....May be concentrate on Respect....maners..ect...and the dangers of drugs.and alcohol..:/ ..Just my 2c though. :Y:

Is it a necessity for students to study metal detectors? ...

Not at all. What a stupid subject to try teach.

"hey son, what do u wanna be when u grow up..."
"I wanna be a metal detectorist(?) and find ring pulls and 22 rounds, maybe by the time I retire i can get off the dole" ..

Well it wouldn't take a university degree to only explore your local park I suppose if that's your thing.
Research however can take you anywhere.

I dunno, when I was a kid, the best subject for me was CDT, Craft, Design and Technology, it was so cool...
I think for my 'O' Level, I designed and built a jar or bottle opener for the aged or infirm, i.e. those with weakness or arthritus etc..

Anyway, my kids came home last week and have to elect certain subjects....

I was blown away! My oldest is doing HPE, Health and Physical Education... He's already been taught a course in swift water rescue and has gone rafting in the grade 5's..

Next trip is on the schools' own $5000 mountain bikes, on a trip up and down some big hill..... he's been instructing us on all these super lite camping gear and dried food to buy!!

Then, robotics, he obviously chose Drones, so that's where they are going, but the teacher suggested they build their own, so they need a 3D Printer.....

The boys have a choice of detectors here, from the Garrett, 705, 2300, 3000, 5000 etc..... but they're not allowed to tell the school!!

Awesome Simmo interesting times ahead by the sounds of it. Young kids excel with education given a choice, any outdoor education is a great benefit in my book :Y:.

Lol ..even detecting your local park you will need to research the area...whether it will hold pd coins..or just decimals...whether its had fetes ..carnivals...ect..or maybe it used to be an old homestead...no point just going to a park a seeing what happens.....i meen you can...but finds will be more of a miss....than a hit......the question was do you think its a necessity to teach your kids how to use a metal detector...some may say yes...some may say no...i lernt how to use a whites coinmaster when i was 10..... didnt make me want to be a geologist :Y:
