Hi all,

This has probably been asked heaps before.

What would be the equipment required to get setup to go detecting for gold, including brands and prices.

I have around $1500 to spend.

Area I will be going is private property up at Bathurst.

It is located on the Macquarie river, it ranges from hilly rocky country to some river flats.

Any advice would be very appreciated.

Cheers Dave

if your lucky you should be able to pick-up sd2200 series or whites tdi oz pro to get you started.

Dave, you could call Gold Search and ask them about the Whites SPP, its around that Price and with a 2 year warranty and there are over 100 coils Available for it, Quite a Few members here have them and use them with good success,
Or you could pick up a used minelab IE SD2100,SD2200, all three are PI machines (pulse Induction) Or the Whites MXT and the GMT,
In the Minelab 705 and the Eureka Gold, Also check out the Nokta Fors Gold.

Garrett have the AT Gold and the AT Pro, that should give you an Idea of what is around and most members can give you an idea as to what works and what don't.

Hi I just bought a minelab sd 2100 for $1000 there the best minelab don't get a vlf machine. Cheers

HI Dave look for a gp extreme I have seen some going cheap or a 2200d with the new mine lab hoping to be released soon second hand detectors are not selling well just do not be in a rush and you will find a good deal regards john :)

I think a better question might be what sort of gold this site has and what detector will find it

eg we all know a ML 5000 will find just about everything , but when I was in WA we found gold with an old 1980s minelab worth about $200 now but the better machine sd2100 found more and deeper so really ,do some home work on what sort of gold your likely to find and then just get something to do the job when you pick up a few oz go and buy a better machine
and just so you know the ML GP extreme was finding more than the 2100 and so it goes the later models always find more
