Sounds a bit drastic. So if its doing the rounds of the depts then which stakeholders are involved? Surely the Gem Council etc get a look in?

Gem council, Nope.... napfa.... Nope... Miners Association .... Yep... Big Miners.... Yep...

Torrington is a Prime Example on what is going on... All this work/talk about 'Fossicking Districts' and a mining company can apply to shrink the area to appease the big boys...With-out any 'Consultation'.....
Most don't realise that these things are happening ....
Thank you to the Glen Innes Lapidary Club.. They were the only Mob to do anything about Tingha's closure and has convinced NPWS, State Forest and other Departments to re-open certain areas for Fossicking... Not any other Mob wanted to know about it, or care as its not GOLD Related...

Any NAPFA Committee Members can PM me to discuss this... But i highly doubt that will happen...
LW....

Hey LW, did the proximity to Inverell have anything to do with the decision to re-open? Just thinking about the Gem Cutting and Tourist Dollars in those towns. Cheers Mackka

Horse Blinkers??? Your guess is as good as mine.... Most likely because its not GOLD Related...

LW....
Not being smart but do you think it may be because lack of feedback or support from fossickers in that particular area or part of the hobby? If napfa members are 90% gold fossickers predominately the issues targeted would represent that percentage. Anyway they are doing what they can and the more members the better in my opinion . Id like them to some how join with the fishers and shooters party going forward.

My opinion on joining a specific political party = NO!!
NAPFA need to lobby & educate all political parties on fossicking/prospecting + the issues being faced not be tied to a specific political party.
If anything the Shooters & Fishers (+ other outdoors orientated political parties) should be doing more to learn about our issues & lobbying us for support. They're the ones after the votes.
What happens if you isolate a political party &/or stand against them then they win the election. Deaf ears??

I agree with mbasko above, and NAPFA should work with and lobby with political parties. It appears NAPFA did revoke a promised campaign against certain political parties just before the last state election for good reason as they got back in.
Interesting LW your view about the Shooters as NAPFA have been involved with them closely for years. NAPFA had one of their first AGM's opened by Robert Brown, and he supported the work NAPFA did, and he raised fossickers issues in parliament. The Shooters then put fossicking in their state policy for outdoor recreation which is still there.
NAPFA made submissions to Geotourism for the Parliamentary standing committee (supported by the Shooters) that forced Parks to allow Fossicking in their state policy. That opened the door for NAPFA to work on and later gain access to 2 additional SCA's. That's a first in decades. NAPFA has gained 26 more fossicking districts despite the proposal being fought bitterly by the Minerals Council and the Dept.
The fossicking districts benefit all prospectors (gem, mineral, fossil, gold) and prevent restrictions from exploration license holders. This year NAPFA have finally overcome hurdles with the Oberon shire which will become a fossicking district in the near future. A big bonus to gem and mineral hunters and well supported at the 2022 Gemboree.
Those with NAPFA know all this.
I'm not sure what your agenda against NAPFA is but suggest you take back those blinkers so you have a spare pair.
