Hi everyone, My real name is Kevin I am 44 years old and happily married with three beautiful girls. I live in Mildura, Victoria but spend a lot of time in Ballarat, my old home town. Have recently purchased a Minelab ex-terra 705 gold pack. Due to illness I have been forced into early retirement which now gives me plenty of time to do all the things I have wanted to do in the past. My interest in detecting/prospecting stems from family history where all my ancestors were miners in Ballarat back in the gold rush days. I have access to 30 acres of land (thanks in-laws) around Buninyong and hope to cut my teeth there before venturing out further afield. As the title says I am an absolute beginner at this so any tips/help/advice with the ex-terra would be much appreciated. Thanks for having me. K.B.

Welcome K. B

Sounds like you have come to the right place and many people on here will help out with your Xterra.

Hope that property goes well for you and you can do your ancestors proud :D

Best of luck,
Cheers

Hi and welcome, I go down to Bendigo a bit I have a few close friends their. Although i am an extreme begginer as well I have had some luck in a few of the creeks there :) their are plenty of people on here that will be able to give you the advice you need to get off to a good start! GOODLUCK

Hi Burkenotwills, welcome to our forum. You have access to a fantastic playground out there. What a history, the 1st miners meeting pre Eureka Stockade as well as having gold discovered there first before Ballarat and having the Golden Triangle became established.
I'll reckon you'll sweep over every available inch of that property. Just imagine the relics your going to find--of the GOLD as well.
Have a ball mate.
Jack

Thankyou for the welcome MJB, Chris and Jaros. Yes I also have access to a relatives property at Rushworth (20 acres ) but haven't been able to get there yet. Looking forward to proving my father in-law wrong about his property at Buninyong. He keeps saying I won't find anything which makes me all the more determined. Love the Eureka history and very passionate about the subject, a very undervalued and under taught event in Australian history. Love the forums and all the information available here. Have realised very quickly, I have a lot to learn.
Cheers K.B.

When you find something interesting to you on the forum just click on the name of the writer and that will take you to their profile, then you can go down to the bit that says show all topics / show all posts, from there you can scroll through to see if there is any other info that you like the look of, if you find some you can then click go to topic or go to post and that will take you to the thread that they posted in, hopefully revealing lots of new information for you to add to your growing knowledge of relevant topics that you want schooling up in.( I hope this is what you are chasing up)(easy learning route).

Cheers Silver, thanks for the heads up. So much information on here about everything that should make things a bit easier.. My wife is already sick of me talking about this site....lol and I've only been on here a couple of days.

hi all iam a new to all this,is the gold at grabbing gullet ,or only rubes and other gem stones?

burkenotwills,...at this stage try not to overburden your wife by being over excited about all this when she needs you to be focusing on other things of relevance to her,.. and from personal experience if she is on facebook never ask if you can just check what's happening on here for a moment(we all know it's not just a moment),..tell her how much you love her and that the things you learn on here may just enhance your lives in a new and exciting direction. And do not under any circumstances physically move her to one side so you can get at the screen,..Trust me it doesn't work, they just get angry(I know)
