Headed out to have a play today not far from what I call 6 gram gully. Had a bit of early success and went home for lunch. Back out before dark just had a good feeling something was in the offing today despite any great pans. Hit up a tiny speci and a nice gold tail. Next pan up gave me goosebumps. I admit it's not the greatest piece but definitely the standout in my collection. Netted this little baby.

Yep pretty happy with that. Makes me want to just take a few days off and hit it hard. Glad I was on the pans not sure I'd have picked up on it through the banker something about just a pan alone in the Bush that really resonates with me. Be a while before I wipe the smile off. :D

Nice
I would be doing a happy dance that would rival the Indian rain dance lol

Awesome work.... Heading to Maryborough this weekend with the SDC2300 so hopefully I can find something similar.

I move around but I sample like a demon, and dig like I've only days to live. Plenty other guys do a lot better with less work, so I try to gain some ground by going often. I have maybe half dozen specis but nothing as large or pretty. Only two ways I know how to get it mate, work hard or research well. I'm honing in on some places that are less worked which most of the people I know who get good results do regularly. Truth is you guys don't see the duffer pans I just edit to the good bits. Thank you for all your comments.

Well done GT, I know the feeling for sure.
I myself is going to head out tomorrow to see if I can get a bit too.
Cheers and good luck on future forays.
Brad......

I like your style

i sometimes have "experts" telling me "oh you wont find any gold there mate . never been any gold there"

but i test pan anyway and sometimes pull up chunkies that have been missed by 104 blokes before me

:D

I have days where i might run 40 - 50 pans until my arms feel like they are going to fall off but i refuse to take anyones word for it about what is , or isnt in a spot.

i would prefer to test anyway and form a clearer understanding

You are quite the hunter GoldTarget the quality of gold you come across always inspiring :)

Actually GD I was thinking about you and dry washing yesterday in that area. Too wet atm but there's some color in those diggings on the hill. Might see if you want to come over when the days get longer. I'm definitely going to make or buy one for the summer I feel like I'm just scratching the surface of some huge potential. Should be enough time between now and then to work out the best places to get some good colours.

You know i'm keen mate, haven't spent much time over Bendigo way always meant to get up there. I'm in the wee early stages of building a trommel for exactly that purpose mate, run it through the trommel then the drywasher = increase recovery rates :)

I really like the look of your finds, the character says alot about an area and your gold isn't too warn and rounded so I expect you are very close to a reef or two, i'd be taking a dolly pot with me and testing quartz as well.

have you found a wash layer or are you mostly working drift in the gullies?

Both. Concentrating effort where the gully lines intersect a wash layer laid down. The wash runs North South from rec lines running East West into gully running east West. The old timers moved up the top and put in drives after exhausting much of the hillside and surfacing (historic records confirm this). The heavy tertiary layer probably put them off and lack of water caused them to move on, leaving plenty of fine recovery. This area is known for larger gold but not nuggets, and is fairly trashy so the machines although out often can be frustrated. No known saddle reef was found but I suspect it's the source of what I'm picking up on layed out in the layers I'm digging.

I believe Dry washing will yield more than wet prospecting, the clay like tertiary on top is a real pita to puddle. I'll send a few pics through pm to you soon, very you excited to come play. Cheers mate.
