whispers on the grapevine (between older prospectors): Heard there was going to be an upgraded version of the 7000 (lighter version) with geo-sense technology and some new multi layered coil wiring that allows the operator to get all types of gold(targets) in any kind of environment without the need to change coils and its was going to be around 20k. Probably a BLOG just have to wait and see.

This hobby needs to be like fishing , if they don't start breeding nuggets soon they won't sell any detectors or tackle.

I won't buy another detector until they have a screen like a fish finder , giving a approx depth and shape of the target.

I don't think the post will be such a waste of space after all.. some good idea's from some of you.

Myself, I think detectors need to come down in price cause larger nuggets are becoming more and more scarce, so our return on investment is dwindling. If they don't drop in price it could have a negative effect on the hobby and therefore sales so I don't think maintaining high prices will save them, they need sales volume. Already the manufactures are focusing on smaller finds, this can be seen with equipment that ML, NF and others are now releasing to the market.. smaller coils are becoming fashionable again. Cant find as many large deep nuggets.. then how about more smaller ones.

I'm not convinced there's plenty of small gold remaining below 12" depth that our GPX's missed, certainly not enough to justify 8~10k in a new detector. I paid for a 4500 and 2300 with finds in under a month from purchasing them, could I do that today in the GT?

I feel there may very well be. Even the 2300 has its depth limits limits on the tiny stuff from about 2 to 3 inches so how much of that would be lower and out of reach of the arguably most sensitive machine about.
The question might be how evenly gold is distributed through a soil horizon in any place.
I wonder how many people on finding a relatively larger and deeper nugget take a decent sample of the lowest soil horizon in which the nugget was embedded and pan it off.

If they come c down in price and new models start to find deeper gold, the gov will just lock up the areas you are likely to find gold in, just like they won't let you pan in good producing gold creeks in vic
