I had a interesting read today on a website stating that 28grams of gold can be stretched out, using the correct methods, to 75 kilometers. http://m.minerals.net/MineralDefinition.aspx?name=gold.
And on a different website they state that, Rarely, gold nuggets are found as quartz gold specimens. I didn't know this, I always thought quartz and gold live together on most occasions. http://www.ebay.com.au/gds/Gold-Nuggets-Buying-Guide-/10000000177627518/g.html

Gold/Quartz specimens are quite commonly found on the goldfields.
Probably 1 in 15 of my finds in the Vic GT are Gold/Quartz specimens.
Many of the Gold Detecting Show and Tell finds on PA are of specimens, in probably close to this ratio (at least for specimens of 0.5g upwards).
Smaller finds are more commonly pure gold, as evidenced by pannings from a stream.
Quartz shows that high pressure, hydrothermal mineralised fluids were in motion, carrying varying amounts of iron, gold, silver, copper etc.
