1966 round 50cents, anyone found one?

36mil made, but I dont see anyone finding them.

Most were and are hoarded, got a pile myself.
3 to the Oz and very recognisable, makes for a fairly liquid stack.

I lost two cans of them years back. My brother went looking for them when they restumped Mum's old house. I had them on the floor joists but they were all gone. Mrs M lost her collection when she was young. She thought she would do the safest thing and deposit them in the bank. She went back with her dad the same day to try to reclaim them but according to the bank staff they didn't have any.

When I dug it I was dissapoint end it wasn't a Florin as I have been chasing one at this spot for over a year now, but that feeling soon disappeared as it was my first round 50c.

Florins are prob a better find, but the round 50 is pretty special. Congrats

Tho not detected I do have a few and a few $5 collectors coins aswell, actually most my coin collection has been handed down from all different family a few at a time...as they fall off the purch'

AFAIK the silver in the round 50s exceeded the face value within less than a year of being released, so people hoarded them and they never saw much circulation.

Yup, pretty much Des, though any that made it back to the mint was melted down for a meaty profit.

I found 3/4 of one last year on the surrounds of a rugby oval, also thought it was a florin but more excited for it to be a silver 50c.
