NSW Gold to rubbish ratio a few weeks back.

A nice 6 day jaunt to an undisclosed location. Weapon of choice GPZ 7000. Cold, yes its winter! Snow here and there in the higher places.

ITS NEVER TOO COLD FOR GOLD....

Its a game of patience as you all know.

1 to 2 gms a day. Some days no grams but it all adds up at the end of trip once you put it all together.

Today's bit, this really hot ground was a nightmare to learn in but I've learnt the sounds of the monster.
Delayed signals or wooo-bip wooo-bip or wooo-bip-bip wooo-bip-bip without and increase in pitch and gold chance to the left is allways hot rocks.
Only digging targets that make the gold chance indecisive or more to the right..

2 hours with the 4500 and 12x8 evo coil. Pretty happy.

3 1/2 hours with Makro Gold Kruzer. First gold with this machine, I was using it with the small coil and it ran smoothly. The target ID was pretty good, rust and other crap rang very high pitched and gold was a nice mellow tone. The biggest piece is 1.95 grams and was the first piece I found at about 100mm deep. The rest were only about 50mm or so. Im fairly happy with the way it performs.

Thanks Chewy. I only had to walk about 30 meters from the car to the patch. I found 8 pieces in about 20 square meters and the rest were within a stones throw of there. 1 piece was deep in a hole that Id discarded as ground noise the last time I was there. Goes to show you should persist until you find the target because the target volume didnt get stronger till I took about 100 mm of dirt off then it screamed on the 12x8 coil.

Only things that I found today, think there was a lot more of them hidden under leaf litter, did make a report to local police, did not seem terribly interested in the find. Looked like a .22 cal, but a centrefire all linked together.

5.56 mm blanks linked for the minimi (M249), old Army training ground probably.

They were in a drain gutter off the side of a track not far out of Maryborough, have no idea of previous use of the area, but other than the normal lead shot, 22 bullets and the occasional musket ball have not found anything else in any quantities, just the old diggings and not much in the way of gold.

Ive watched a few videos from very experienced detector operators and they have said to go that bit deeper to get a noticeable change in threshold. Ill be more thorough in future.

Hi Folks,

Been out and about for the last few days looking specifically for faint signals with the SDC to allow me to do some coil tests on undisturbed targets. Worked quite hard over three mornings for very little result. Had one really good hit yesterday on a well worn path that ran over the corner of a mullock heap. Sounded like junk and the signal was too good for what I was looking for. Decided to dig it and find out. Was quite surprised to see this little guy in the scoop. There must have been stacks of people walk over the top of this piece and not put a coil to the ground.

Had a bit more luck today in relation to the faint signals I was chasing. Will grab a mate to help me compare a couple of coils on those targets. Dont like walking away and leaving pieces in the ground but realistically it is the only way to accurately judge the sensitivity of a coil. Will post the results when we get the job done.

Hi Folks,

Quite windy this morning so I decided to work in the bottom of a gully to stay out of the breeze. Plenty of work had been done in the creek and the adjoining banks over the years. The area was badly over grown and impossible to walk through. Vines, low scrub and blady grass made it tough going. Glad I took the 2300 with me as it would have been too difficult pushing through this terrain with a gpx. The leads would have been constantly caught up on twigs and vines. Noticed that someone had been in the area recently. Found a set of house keys that they must have dropped as they tried to push through. Spent quite a bit of time on hands and knees getting into some of the tighter areas. Only had one junk signal for the whole morning which was pleasing. Eventually ended up getting a signal in an unusual manner. Was checking an area under an overhang when I picked up a slight murmur as I pulled the coil out. Turns out that there was a target on the underside of of the overhang and the back of the coil picked it up. Reached down to grab my pick but it wasnt there. Gee that annoys me when it happens. It must have fallen out while I was crawling around on my hands and knees. Was lucky enough to be able to knock some material off with my scoop.

(Unfortunately the angle of the photo doesnt clearly show the overhang. You will see some of the material that I dislodged with the scoop sitting next to the coil.)
The largest clump sounded off on the detector and I then knew that I was in with a good chance as it was a grey clay that quite often holds gold in this area. Eventually this nice little piece popped out.

It was starting to warm up so I pulled the pin on a top morning out.
