Went out on sunday for a scratch around. It turned out to be one of my best days. the gold is very chunky with no fly poo specs.

Well done bluecurrent
Panning can be lots of fun and cheap too and beats detecting and spending so much money.

Another day and more nuggets. These two mates were found in the same pan. Could someone tell me what the black rock like substance is attached to the gold. It's very hard and i cant scratch it. My thoughts are this is the parent rock in which it come from. so in theory, if I can find this black rock I could possibly find the mother load! lol. The only problem is I haven't seen any black rock like it. Any comments appreciated.

Hi bluecurrant,
Maybe the wood grubs are sharpening their teeth on gold now lol lol lol. I see that you have a minilab xt1700 how do like it, and do you still use it? I have on also that has been collecting dust in the shed for years. I brought it out the other week and gave it a clean, I plan on using it to check the rear tailings off my high banker.

Hi Bluecurrent first up nice piece.
The only rocks I've seen like that is in volcaic areas where the blackish larva melts onto everything it touches. It may well have come from an extinct volcano.
I'm from the Shoalhaven area., you get all kinds of mineralized rocks there with black around them, but I've never seen black with gold like that. Interesting!
