    Canberra Region - EL 8051

Replying to an old post... but the second round of geosensing flyovers was done a couple of months back. Still no news of any proposed ground activities - it's possible they've located new deposits, but far more likely they're considering the same ones that have been proposed before but may be...

    DIY Gold Rat sluice clones

You want the boiled linseed oil for that, gets hot fast as it polymerises (raw linseed oil should be treated with respect too). I either spread the rag over a bit of metal to spread the heat - or wrap it in a wet rag and throw it in a metal bin where it won't matter if it does get too hot. My...

    Thought for the day

What? No candles or wine! I was looking forward to getting old(er) - you've shattered my dreams of aging disgracefully with multi-day debauched Bacchanalia. Do you mean that (in a couple of years) when I'm old - and no longer have to care about the opinions of strangers (and family), that I...

    DIY Gold Rat sluice clones

Yeah nah :) (pedantic chemist). It doesn't "dry" - it "polymerises" (like sunflower oil in a cast iron frypan). It's not hard to test - it weighs the same when the oil is applied as it does several days later. 😉 (fuller explanation further down) There's two basic types:- raw linseed oil, and...

    DIY Gold Rat sluice clones

I have a 6" Gold Rat river sluice that I like so much I copied it. :) Materials:- Scrap aluminium angle, scrap plywood, Linseed oil, screws, rivets, co-polymer silicone (or liquid nails) Note: I used Dream mats, the only bit I fabricated was the actual sluice boxes. Many coats of linseed oil...

    Converting files of all sorts.

I haven't tried Tribolite - I'll investigate. I use OSMTracker for creating maps, GetBackGPS and GoogleEarth for finding my way around. Does Tribolite allow you to keep your maps and travels private? Cheers

Largest gold deposit in the world worth $83 billion found in China

At 375 tonnes China is the world's largest gold producer, followed by Russia. But Australia is 3rd.... and 314 tonnes is nothing shabby! ☺️

    Converting files of all sorts.

Simmo's method will give you an KMLSUPEROVERLAY (opaque image overlay in Google Earth - pic attached). If you want to view a point in the image overlay - put a GE pin on the point and then hide the overlay to view the satellite image. If you want to use the boundaries create a polygon, and then...

    Howdy from SE-NSW

Greetings to all. I pan and sluice around the ACT. Many years of learning and making mistakes about gold, and having fun with rocks and water.
