    Digital Microscope

They can be great for picking small splinters of metal out of your fingers as well. I've got a binocular 3x to 40 times optical microscope. Its one tool that I will keep forever, its so handy for doing small jobs and inspecting things.

    Hilux's finds

They seem to be going the way of Apple. I don't know anything about 7 as a data connection. I read somewhere that the detector will pair to blutooth head sets, but will just not work. I suspect they just have used LL bluetooth and request and identifier from the headset. If it doesn't match a...

    Hilux's finds

I'm slowly coming around. Its a lot different to the Vanquish 540 that I have used for the last 2 years. I have to retrain my brain with the new VDI numbers. Also having 2 1/2 times the VDI range as the Vanquish the numbers tend to be a bit more jumpy. I think another 10 hours or so on it and...

    Hilux's finds

Third trip out with the news Manticore. I went to a riverside beach that I've been to a at least 6 times and usually find one coin per trip. I found 11 coins, nothing too exciting. A 1927 penny and some spendables. All reasonably deep and have been there a long time.

    Hilux's finds

Thoughts on what this is? Found adjacent an early 1900s mental hospital. I'm thinking a screw cap to a hot water bottle or canvas water bag. It's non ferrous. So brass or some alloy.

    Bluetooth hearing aids

Hi Leroy, yes thats the ones. I'm happy with them. I don't like the microphone stalk and just angle that backwards so its out of the way. Sound quality is ok. I cannot give a comparison to headphones as I've never used them. I like them as I can hear what's going on around me which is...

    Bluetooth hearing aids

I use the Avantalk headset with the small speakers next you your ears, almost like ear buds. It has a band around the back of your neck. They are aptx low latency and work very well.

    Personal Location Beacon recommendations

A possible option may be a latest model iphone, they have an SOS function via satellite. I tried out the trial / test on my wifes iPhone. It seems quite neat.

    Hilux's finds

Yep that's the one. Mine has 2 diametrically opposed holes in the rear (from manufacturing). I guess they were made in many different locations.

What is the best time to detect

I thought the only EMI sources that upset detectors were man made sources - phones, radars, power lines, buried cables etc. I think most of these sources would not change too much during the day. I've only got a Vanquish 540 and only have problems with buried comms cables and what I think is...

Satellite comms via iPhones model 13 and later

I probably got that bit wrong. A work colleague showed me how it works on his iPhone (I use Android). There's a simulation mode that you can use to test that it can connect to a satellite. I thought he said starlink but you're correct about it being Globalstar. I was quite impressed with the...

    Hilux's finds

Yes its very much like a cuff link but maybe too small. The ends are only about 7mm diameter. The site was probably 1890 - 1920 based on the bullet casings I found. Did they use mini "cuff links" to hold down collars?

Yeah finding odd things is always interesting. Old coins are also fun. I'm just sitting here contemplating going out for a look right now!
