I have a series of test targets i made from 50/50 lead/tin solder, each in a small plastic zip-lock bag with a strip of ribbon so they can be easily found & retrieved. (When buried vertically). I prefer to use the horizontal hole in an embankment test as it offers the least ground disturbamce.

Mr Magoo ... dont die in the Outback (or anywhere) ... a good trick is to take one of the many water bottle filter units that are available. There is even a "drinking straw" although Im told its frustrating as it has limited capacity/rate. They arent cheap, but they can save you from waterborne...

I take my detectors off the shaft & put in a hard shell padded carry case for longer trips. For short travels from camp there's not really any need if you dont let it get knocked around.
