AM Alaskan Flare and a newbie prospector

Heya Marked, That sluice of yours should be able to move a decent amount of material & catch everything no probs. My McKirk is 1" narrower & 12" shorter & is adequate for my one man operation & am confident it catches it all. I classify to 1/2" with good flow or less in slow flow. Wasting time...

AT Pro recouped it's cost in 12 weeks....

That's great going! Spot on about this being a great hobby. Not many other activities one does "can" potentially recover your costs. Most hobbies you just keep handing over cash on new gear/repairs/maintenance etc. Thanks for sharing ya story.

    Clean up proccesses

Then to dry it, just put your pan in the sun or spread the gold out in the pan & it'll dry over night. With a metal pan you can put it over a low heat(BBQ/stove/fire) to dry it. Then just tip it on a piece of A4 paper & make a bit of a funnel out of it & pour it into what ever you want.

Newbie starting up in old mine

Gold looks like gold from any angle. The look of Mica changes as you look at it from different angles. Also, if gold was easily seen at the front of a mine, no-one would have left it behind. Cool looking mine though. If there's a creek bed nearby, I'd be cleaning out a few crevices & some more...

    Today I BOUGHT

I've had a pair of them for about 2 years. Get worn every work day. They only just flogged out. Canvas "Quagmire" are the ones I got. $89 from most shops but seen some on eBay for $65 delivered. One guess where I'll buy my next pair from...

    Floating gold

I prefer rinse aid, as detergent can tend to bubble(even if used in miniscule amounts) but will use detergent if I have to. Just a thought... In a washing machine, if you have too many bubbles/foam, then you add some fabric softner & the bubbles go away. I wonder if that would work to stop...

    Flour gold

This is what I do to - I wait till I'm at home to really clean my concentrates because you can take your time... Add small batches(table spoon?) of concentrates to a pan with a big bottom(Garrett 15" pan or a big steel pan work great). then try the swirl method like here in the Youtube clip...

    Today I BOUGHT

Couple of axe handles. I'm sick of using crap tools. From a clean up job, scored a couple of Hytest axe heads. One, a Craftsman & the other a Racing axe :D This all eventuated after fitting a new handle to my hatchet last week, which I found out is a Keesteel brand(quite desirable & holds an...

Using a dredge in Australia for recreational prospecting is illegal - information and questions

No problem buying/selling or building dredges - same as you can buy/sell or make bongs with no probs. You're just not allowed to use them for their intended purpose.
