Wish I could fossick at point leo

After finding no sapphires at multiple places, I'm starting to wonder if there are sapphires at the beaches next to point leo. My book says that Tulum/Balnarring beach has sapphires, and as far as I know you can fossick there. Very pissed that the one place where lots of sapphires were found in...

My Finds From The Holidays + Help With Cabbing

Hello everyone, Over the holidays, I went to Sailor's Creek, Moonlight Head and the quarry at Mt Shadwell. I found a small handful of garnets and zircons, nothing big enough to facet, and got a Woolies shopping bag full of olivine at the quarry. I am in the process of opening my olivine to look...

Stupid Question - Can I use a normal sieve to find gems?

Wouldn't it be possible to give the normal sieve a good shake, sending the gems to the bottom, and then scoop the top layers off? I probably will buy a gem sieve anyway.

Stupid Question - Can I use a normal sieve to find gems?

I have recently come across gem sieving, and I have a few locations in mind to try it out, but I don't have a gem sieve! Could I use a normal kitchen sieve to find gems, or does it not work because of the sieve's shape? Thanks, ManfiCat

Ok, I put it into some vinegar, and it did not react. Great, I found my very first agate!

What is this? From the Mornington Peninsula

I don't have any hydrochloric acid, so I can't check, but how would it react? That sounds very interesting!

What is this? From the Mornington Peninsula

Hello everyone, I recently went to the Mornington Peninsula, specifically Cairns Bay for some fossicking, and I came across this interesting rock. I took it home and sanded it, and I was convinced it was an agate, but it leaves a streak when I grind it on a brick. I thought agate had a hardness...
