    Cleaning Up at Durakai

Good to raise the point once again Jaffa. Unfortunately it is likely that none of the people out there not filling in their holes, are members of any of the related forums and some quite likely won't have appropriate permits or approvals for what they are doing. Rob P.

    R.I.P. - Passing of Famous/Notable Persons

I think that keeping going is what is keeping her going. Easy to drop the bundle at this time of life, but she could go past 100 if she keeps going as she has been. Rob P.

    Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Act

Not sure about that, as I get 70.2 c/kwh of solar input, taken off my bill, and sometimes that fully pays for what I draw and if not will significantly reduce the bill. The rough $2 a day that I mentioned in a previous post was my use as measured by the PowerPal device, but the solar input will...

Do we need big kitchen ovens anymore?

I will keep my oven although it doesn't get used that much, besides cooking I also use it for tempering the steel when doing some blade work. Yep, that tempering could be done in a small benchtop unit, but why buy something else when you have a perfectly good oven to use? Rob P.

    Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Act

What is the rough daily $ cost for most places. Mine is typically around $2 a day unless I use the AC, and I try very hard to not use that as it is a 3 phase unit and eats 4.5kw. Only used 3 times over summer and not during peak charge rate times. I use a power monitor device (PowerPal) that I...

Edumacating me about gold - Orogenic gold deposits

Some may be "orogenic" but what about most of the WA goldfields that were likely not created this way, or if so, then way, way before the eastern state's gold. Interesting, but .... it won't change what or where I go looking. Rob P.

    Cooper tyres

It seems like horses for courses, or maybe where and how the tyres are used, will likely contribute to the issues that people have. I am on my second set of BFG ATs at the moment, got >120,000km from the first set and not one puncture in that distance. Still had legal tread on them, replaced...

Nicest place to call home in Australia?

Couldn't agree more. I too have done a lot of OS travel with work but back home and retired I have been all around Oz and while I have some favourite places (including some OS), just saying Oz is the best, suits me fine. Rob P.

    What area are you in?

In your Profile under the Personal tab, there is a field called "From", and putting some reference in that field that is what I believe Moneybox would be referring to. Rob P.

Go straw - saved my life today!

Thanks, Davent, very helpful. I have and carry in different packs the Sawyer filter products. The advantage of those is that they can filter thousands of litres of water but the downsides are that they don't filter most chemicals, pesticides, viruses, heavy metals, and the like, as they do not...

    That's not a Knife

I will use this one as a large bushcraft chopper. This was my second attempt, again using an old but larger file >6mm thick and using a blade shaping jig that I developed. Well, there were lots of frustrations and build issues, but I am reasonably pleased with the end result but it has nowhere...

    Builds By Baz

I love your work, but I guess that I am somewhat in envy of you to have not only the skill & knowledge but also the facilities to allow you to do the amazing things that you do. I did a bit of "rough" stuff during CovID lockdown, but nothing like the results that you have achieved. Rob P.

    In My Day

As a kid a couple of times I drilled a hole through a large cracker, and put a bit of fuse wire through, soldered it to a long piece of twin wire, tapes around the cracker, then used a Milo tin with a small hole for wire in it. Then put in under the seat of a mates old bomb of a car and ran the...

    Camper Trailer Feedback

Daniel, I am not suggesting that you do what I did here, but it may provide some ideas and may be close to what could meet your needs. Earlier on the forum I posted a quick and nasty conversion that I did on my 50+ year old trailer to help my son & grandson do a trip to Queensland...

    Bibbulmun walking Track

I have not done it but would like to have done so, but I am a bit too long in the tooth now. I believe that many people do it in sections rather than trying to do the whole thing in one go and for safety/security most do it with company. But the link below is of a sole lady doing it a couple of...

    Camper Trailer Feedback

The problem is that this is a bit like the "How long is a piece of string" question. We all have our likes, dislikes, other constraints such as the $$ stuff is also important, weather, etc. Now in the last 12 months, I have used - 1 - Swag carried in the truck that I was driving from place to...
