    No idea

the only way to really know if there is gold there is to have a crack at panning some of the gravel. The gravel looks like i could hold some gold, quartz is a good indicator though quartz is common and gold is rare so have a crack at panning some gravel and let know how you get on.

    Quartz vein convergence

Diggerdude I am well aware deformation is 3 dimensional event and this can turn out very different results depending on if we looking at brittle or ductile deformation event which will expose different layers at within the rock structure you don't always get perfect 180 degree folding, also...

    Quartz vein convergence

More info needed just want to clarify that you have slate and gneiss layers that are 30m apart are they at the same altitude, because if so this could be a deformation event on a unbelievable scale. gneiss is a high grade metamorphic rock normally comes out of slate that has been super cooked so...

Essential prospecting equipment - only in the US of A

In Australia we are very lucky that there are not many things that will eat you when you are out in the bush. So if you think wild animals are going to be scared of you just because you have a water pump running and making a little bit noise then you could be in for a surprise. I talk from...

Petition to stop the proposed ban on sluicing in Victoria

Yeah reading down the page Jenny says" why doesn't your organization make a bid to have the sluice recognized as separate categorized because at the moment they all fall under one umbrella" This could be worth doing or just the greens way of wasting our time so they can get there bill through. ⭐ Alluvial Show n Tell

what acid did you use? and generally acid leaching of native elements is only used to extract the non visible atoms. so would not recommend playing with acid unless you have the right equipment to process it. What are you studying and where?

What can you tell me about these bits?

The bullet is hard to get a accurate scale but but a quick measure across the base and it all can be explained. 7.62mm across and it 30 cal (.303 .308 .30-06) 12.70mm across and it 50 cal. I would think from the fact it looks to be about 30- 40 mm long give or take it would be 30 cal

can anyone melt down some gold leaf?

Ok well I would say that is not likely to happen as gold melts at 1064C and boils at 2807c so in if it where possible to destroy gold completely it would have to be heated to well over its boiling point! Melting gold leaf is no different to gold dust it will melt fine! Because its so thin you...

    Separation of laminar flow patterns

This is something you could debate all night, but from discussions I have had in my extractive metallurgy class there are a few basic principles to take into account, so you can make sure you don't end up with a laminar flow that is not disrupted by the vortex created by by your riffle. 1. the...

    panning sands

Its most likely just crushed quartz or other rocks high in silicone. I strongly doubt it being arsenic or lead as they both have a grey metallic luster and your sand is white.

    Could this be gold dust?

No Probs mate. have a read of this you may find something about the area you working in. http://mines.industry.qld.gov.au/assets/geoscience-pdf/geological_framework.pdf

    Could this be gold dust?

The rock looks like slate and the yellow specs are most likely Chalcopyrite with some oxidization on the surface. Its looks abit like the slate from around the Enfield area that has been referred in geological reports as "gold slate" and is described as " fine-grained, dark-bine, and greasy". So...
