    How Emergency Services View Prospectors

Lock in your vehicle "before" you venture out. Don't need to back track...just go to way point "Car"....shortest distance between you and the vehicle is a strait line. ;)

    How Emergency Services View Prospectors

The big "Fact" about the ocean is many more die from drowning than detecting when their boats overturn from not respecting what the ocean can throw at you. If ever you have been out there in a strong southerly, which can come up in a mater of moments, with short sharp choppy conditions, then...

Beginners Detecting Mistake..."Walking away from gold too soon."

And how many times do you come across a patch previously detected by an operator who only chains in the one direction. I've come across this situation on numerous occasions in WA and seen the tell tail signs of where the nuggets they unearthed came from. I've cross chained many of these and come...

    How Emergency Services View Prospectors

GPS and PLB together with common sense and pre-researching your location gets you half way there. Small back pack with water, space blanket, couple of oranges, lighter is optional if you are not a bush oriented or experienced prospector also helps. The article to me is directed at the new chums...

Murder in the gold feilds sunday night

Roamed around the WA goldfields for much of my later life and have never been worried about being murdered. If I was to be scared by anything it would be roaming around Inner Sydney after a late night meal any day. But they won't do a series of murders in say Sydney as it doesn't seem unusual...

Very comprehensive goldie and of much interest to the lapidary members here on the Forum...all Quartz is not boring even though some of the gold bearing quartz might not float your boat...unless of course it is riddled with gold 😊...then it has my total undivided attention.

Beginners Detecting Mistake..."Walking away from gold too soon."

Quartz in some of its crystalline form can have a very bright lustre. On a trip many years ago we did a vid on the Nundle crystals, which are some of the clearest in Australia. Liz made reference to them as "Nundle Diamonds" and for some reason this description stuck with many within the...

Wet Prospecting Shovels - information and questions

Great picks and the main choice for most of the underground sapphire miners. Move a lot of dirt very quickly with them. Pity there is not a lot more sellers around for them these days.

    My Place on the Palmer!

Great drone footage Simmo and when I saw the smoke in the distance near the beginning of the clip my heart missed a beat knowing what recently happened  Some nice country in that area.

Audio feedback recall for the 6000

Another thing to remember when dropping off a warranty item to a dealer is "attitude" can do you a lot of good when talking to the staff. Going off and abusing the guy behind the counter for a problem they had nothing to do with won't get you the best outcome at the end of the day.

Beginners Detecting Mistake..."Walking away from gold too soon."

I have a handful from a mate in Tassie and facetted a couple of them myself. One was a very clear white which I needed to recut as the first attempt at the table was too close to the cleavage plane and the polishing was not up to scratch. Came out OK eventually though. The second was a stone...

Size doesn't matter SL even though the misses might disagree with you, 🤔😊...covering every inch from all directions is what counts and by the pics you post you seem to do that extremely well. The big one will eventually have your name on it.

Thanks Sam...interesting info about the Killiecrankie diamonds mate as they are not "small quartz bits". They are in fact Topaz that was formed some 370 million years ago, and are extremely sought after by the Lapidary community. They are referred to as diamonds as when cut into a "Brilliant...

Hunting for "REEF" Gold....an approach for beginners.

A very comprehensive look at the most common mineral on the planet Goldie. Well explained and of interest to all who see it on the fields in its various forms. Also useful for the gem hunters looking for clear crystals or mineral rich varieties such as Amethyst, Citrine and Green quartz sought...

Detecting bigger gold in NSW...."Alluvial" vs "Eluvial"

Tibooburra is certainly a memorable spot on the NSW map, and most who venture out there leave with a saddened heart that they have to go back to the big smoke. Gold is the secondary pleasure you get from such an environment, with the scenery and sunsets being the most memorable thing to take...
