Only one's I've seen were wooden but wouldn't be surprised if they used leather. Maybe replace an old split handle perhaps, they didn't throw much away unless it was totally RS

Nice Wishful, I had some of them but have been wondering lately where they have gone as I haven't seen them for a few years now. They used several of those Irons at a time one being used, swap for next one on wood stove and so on my old Gran showed me once using 3 at a time and they are the ones...

I wouldn't know, but what an interesting place you have.All I've got is an old shepherds type hut, but may have been used for fisherman rather than shepherds still haven't finished detecting around it and have owned the place for 21 years how slack is that.
