Heathcote reef lines and alluvial areas for Google Earth - from Lidar

thanks for your post - it's the "kicker" that I needed to start on something I've been thinking about for a couple of years now... I see that the DEM 1 metre resolution elevation files for my area of interest were re-processed to 5 metre resolution :(

    Photos from the bush

There's a lot in that photo! - I'm still looking for the bird cos I find myself distracted by the geology, especially a quartz piece in the lower right foreground containing what looks to be Stylolites. Depending on where you are in Australia stylolites are considered an "indicator". You might...

DRULE MAT slucing alternative un tested

Been there.... and I found that it needs a LOT of water to have that mat clearing efficiently correction clearing at all but then again it is a tough call in a river sluice. Would be better in a High banker I imagine. You could trim the lugs off the underside of the mat so it lays flat as I did...

    AUSTRALIA AND AUSTRALIANS. Douglas Adams

My daughter has lived in the USA for eight years and generally speaking "fresh" cream is not a thing that city folks are able to get - the stuff they call cream is an imitation and comes out of a spray can.

    Yukon image .....

Here's how I explain to newcomers on how to view a "cross eyed" stereo image on your computer screen..... Load the the image and adjust the overall width of the stereo pair to around 250mm in width. Your best viewing distance is one arms length from the screen. Gaze at the image pair and...

    Yukon image .....

Thank you Teemore, For those of us without a viewer to get the 3D effect I have prepared a cross-eyed version to view without a viewer. Google "How To Free View Stereoscopic Pairs" if the technique is unknown to you ........this is my passion :)

    Swag recommendations, information and questions

There is a lot of "romanticism" wrapped up in the term SWAG, but really the modern day "swags" are just mini tents, and some may call it evolution. Now, tents are really practical especially when the weather is not favorable.... but swags are not.... Yes! I've slept in a "real" swag (you know...

    Geovic and Warburton Area

I use GEOVIC maps and in my experience, and broadly speaking the areas outside of the "historic" golden triangle (ie Tarnagulla Dunolly Moliagul), also Ballaarat / Bendigo, Castlemaine, Whahalla for example ... the display of historical data is patchy, as in that not every gold occurrence or...

Missing Prospectors & Other Persons Victoria

Whilst panning in Gippsland I've had high powered rifle shots put over my head a couple of times - maybe, just maybe they were deer hunters and didn't know that I was so so close! by but hey! I'm a generous person..... :awful:

    First detecting find

congrats... my first find was a aluminium racing pigeon leg ring at Muckleford State Forest near Castlemaine Vic. It was interesting researching the leg ring number, it turned out that bird was ringed in 1966, the owner was from Reservoir, just out of Melbourne Vic but he had since died so I...

Trying to find Alluvial gold in NSW for a hand crafted wedding ring

X2.... and dig deeper, find the bottom (hardpack gravel or bedrock) that's where the gold is. If you're shoveling loose gravel you're not there yet........ depends on the location but be prepared to go down 1 metre plus.
