    Today I MADE

What does the Canola oil do to it Dave? I am guessing making it more springy. Wouldn't mind knowing a bit more about blacksmithing, a bit of a lost art.

    Today I MADE

No , the flies and ants havent been a problem as yet. We have millions of tiny ants around but i could have been lucky so far as they haven't found them yet. I put salt, pepper n a bit of garlic on to discourage pests as well.

    Today I MADE

I eventually have got a picture up of the slanted box RM. My first go at getting a photo on so not attached to the original post by the looks. As far as the moisture goes it is a bit of trial and error. I just keep checking until they seem right. If you leave them too long they go leathery so...

    Today I MADE

Have had a crack at making a sun drier for a surplus of tomatoes that have come up where the kitchen scraps were chucked out. It seems to work ok and takes about two days to get them to the right moisture content. Designed to get a bit of convection air flow under the payne of glass. Beautiful...

What are YOU doing right NOW

Well done, the only good fox is a dead fox. They are deadly hunters, i saw one catch a bronewing pidgeon one day by hiding in the wheat stubble then leaping on the poor unsuspecting bird when it was picking up a bit of grain.

    Torn meniscus

Yes mate ,i came a cropper in the sheep yards and badly damaged mine in left knee. The specialist Dr said if i was younger they could operate and prodaly do a good job but my old knee , about 65 then was past it. He gave anti inflamatories and said the only other option was a full knee...

Really interesting and valuable perspective there. Obviously gained from long experience and observation. You could probably provide some good insight to the people wrestling with the massive problems in Alice Springs.

    Whinge of the day thread...

Amazing stuff there. Australian govts in general seem to think they are not doing their job unless they keep enacting new laws. The worst thing tho is the general populace seem to lap it up.

Yes agree, will end up with gluey gunk in carby if left too long as fuel slowly evaporates and leaves residue behind. Talking from experience gained the hard way.

    Slimline fuel jerrys

Yes, I understand that Phil, I still use a big old steel ex army one which has year of 1952 stamped on the side. As it has never leaked i still use it as we are both same age. Called Jerry cans as invented by the Germans of course and the allies reckoned they were better than anything they had...

As another trier at the camp Phil turned up to i would like to thank him for the wealth of experience and willingness to share his knowledge that made this camp much better for everyone there. Phil and his trusty quad gave us some confidence about where to look after the initial lack of gold...

    Snake Gaiters

I heard a bloke on ABC radio last year tell how he was bitten on the ear by a small King Brown when detecting under a small tree . It was briefly hanging off his ear apparently. Luckily he had a fly veil on which absorbed the venom and he was ok. Unluckily he had found a nuggett and in the...

    4500 V's 6000

A very interesting read. Thanks . Have been thinking about upgrading from a 4500 to a 7000 but your experiences make me think i just need to improve my understanding and handling of the 4500.

No mate haven't got a flash 7000 just a 4500 which i am still learning about but have been finding some small bits but all very close to the surface. This made me think i should have been finding some a bit deeper. The feedback about running a deeper tone may help. Will give it a good shot next...

Ok thanks for all the feedback people will adjust the pitch to get a lower tone which should help because the old ears are definately pretty ratshit in the higher frequencies

I have noticed many quotes from you very experienced people that tiny murmur sounds often lead to good finds. As one whose hearing is pretty damaged from tractor driving, squealing pigs and rifle shots even though i tried to keep ear muffs on most of the time i wonder if those signal amplifiers...
