If you see an area such as this, well if I see and area such as this, we know there's gold to be had. You can't have this sort of gold history without there still being a bit for you left behind. The problem is that this is a live lease however it's an "E" lease so that's where the 40e permit comes into play.

You will almost certainly get access to 10 square miles of this ground if you do a good job of your application but there are a few rules to follow. You must apply at least 21 days before you intend to visit, you get access up until three months from the date of your application and you MUST submit a report at the end stating what you found and where you found it. You must stay clear of the lease holders operations and keep in mind that you'll be on a pastoral lease as well so you must not camp near a watering point, open and close gates leaving them as you found them and be sure to remove ALL rubbish that you bring in.

In other words behave in a responsible manner and follow the rules. The 40e system is a great aid to the recreational prospector. No firearms are allowed and in most cases no dogs. Most areas are baited so it'd be foolish to bring your pet anyway.

I'll have a go at picking a spot for a 40e but I'm also not sure about access to areas. Are there tracks through the areas or do you just drive anywhere over the area?
I was thinking of basing myself in Leonora and looking around Menzies.

You won't go short of tracks, Rodney. Station tracks are plentiful and there are also exploration drilling tracks and minesite roads where there's been recent mining. Although the countryside is usually quite open, it's best not to stray from the beaten tracks as theres a high chance of staking a tyre on hard, dry, dead branches.
