I live in Lismore northern nsw and have been traveling out to tooloom and drake areas doing some testing with poor results.
I know there are good areas but they mostly are in no go zones, national parks and state forest with no fossicking zones. There are some pretty crazy farmers that will point guns at people trespassing up here lol.
The area has a history of gold mining through the Clarence valley, Rocky/Timbarra river, drake and tooloom areas.
In general the area is tough with many of the known gold Bering creeks running dry over the hotter months so sluicing is basically not going to be possible.
I got access to a property with several historic sites from the 1870s but the lack of water now just like in the 1870s is prohibitive. The old timers abandoned working with good gold in the area due to lack of water according to records from that time. It’s just not feasible to walk buckets half a km to water lol.
I am interested to know if anyone can suggest areas a bit easier to work in the region.
As it is I travel at least a couple of hours to go prospect so that covers a large area of possibilities locally and I don’t mind putting the km in.

Hey mate I live in South Grafton and have done extensive research on locations around Cangai and Jackadery. Lots and lots of abandoned mines
If your interested to do a trip send me a message 🤙
Hi mate, nice to meet a fellow prospecter I'm on the Tweed and have just got home from Mudgee was wondering if there's anywhere closer to north east NSW? Kope to here from you

Hi all, I'm just now getting back into this and would like to try panning in the southern end of McLeods Creek near Drake. Have read on the forum that the southern end is the best approach, but am not sure exactly where to go... e.g. can I hike a bit upriver (say, 100 m) from where Long Gully Rd crosses the creek, not sure if that is private property around that area? Or, do I need to go further along Mcleods Trail? Also, I'm in Alstonville and willing to travel if anyone wants a partner for river-based gold prospecting. I have a little bit of experience, but haven't had time to really research good areas and access points. Thanks.

I go out there occasionally. From what I can gather it’s mostly private land though lots of people walk back along the creek. I haven’t tried where long gully and McLeods join but have heard it isn’t a bad spot.
I have done the other end of the creek and didn’t find it to be great, not the bedrock seen towards Timbarra/ rocky end.
A lot of the area is locked up unfortunately.
Ewingar is open again, some serious hiking in there to get to good stuff from what information is available.
I want to get to an area out there before it gets to hot and bush fires risk is to high, the place would be hard to get out of if a fire started.
