Imbil area Qld information and questions

Sadly No legal public fossicking in ANY of the places mentioned in this thread, except poss 7 mile Nanango As far as Imbil goes, mostly state forest, mostly managed by HQ Plantations, no fossicking signs and now cameras......

    Test Nuggets

The inertia in question is not in the weight but the balance beam as a function of its mass and quality of its bearing. The best ones, like in my old lab, actually have a mechanism for lowering the test weights onto their side of the pan to eliminate any dropping force affecting the reading...

    Test Nuggets

12,000,000 holes once you take into account every microscopic piece of degraded tin can, fencing wire, det fragments & blasting wire that you will never be able to find in your scoop. .... I would pay good money for a detector that COULDNT find 0.0025g :)

    Test Nuggets

Agree - get a 1grain (0.06g) 24kt flat rectangular ingot from ebay or similar. Cut it in half with a sharp scalpel & cut 1 of the halves in half repeatedly until you cant see it. 0.06 0.03 0.015 0.0075 0.0038 0.0019 Also I too really cant believe that you can find 0.0025g with a PI

Minelab 4500 making a second comeback

From ML website for a 5000 is 11 digits I cant remember who told me 13 digits but obviously he cant count any better than I so I will edit my original post to 11 digits. Might cause a bit of a thread discontinuity issue but we can blame it on eddies in the space -time continuum..

    Algoforce Compared to SDC2300?

    If 00 ID then <0.15g

    Algoforce Compared to SDC2300?

ID15 shot would be steel shot not lead but yes is poss. You just have to play the odds. Ignoring 00 eliminates 99% of lead shot and 1% of nuggets. If you have lots of ID15 shot around then you can ignore that too and dig the 5-8 and +30 signals knowing that you will be missing the reefy 1-3...

Minelab 4500 making a second comeback

I cant count. 7 digits. I will edit my post. Also older AUs made one has/had a little green sticker ( aus quality control)

    Algoforce Compared to SDC2300?

If you already have an SDC I cant understand why you would want to sell it (~ $3300) and buy an Algo ( ~ $3000) as your main PI. Performance wise you are going slightly backward and havent made any signif money. I supposed you could make a k buying a used Algo. Sure sell the Monster or EQ800...

Minelab 4500 making a second comeback

Woody on the 4500 re-re release...somewhere in here he talks gain. My recollection is mainly a blur ( it is poss in another of his 4500 vids) but pretty sure its max selectable Rx gain. There must be other gain stages in there though to go from the high uV/low mV coil signal to the high mV...

Minelab 4500 making a second comeback

7 digit serial number is 2008-2013 ie 48x gain 11 digit serial number is Nov 2015- Feb 2021 ie 36x gain. To be clear the 48x gain ones might go a bit deeper but the 36x gain ones will be smoother and may well do better on smaller shallower stuff.

Minelab 4500 making a second comeback

Yeah sure, more likely they want to have something out there right now at the Algoforce price point to put pressure on the new player but dont want to drop to 5000 price too far or show their hand with new stuff until Nokta launch announced. ML wouldve been better off keeping the SDC price...

cats out of the bag (a new Minelab dealer in Bendigo!)

I can interpret some of this if you like : "Release next generation of detectors across recreational, gold and Countermine over the coming 6 to 18 months." = We are def gonna do something sometime but dont wanna spill the beans or commit ourselves to a timeline we might not meet. With a bit...
