I've always been in the habit of ignoring those annoying tiny double blips when I've encountered a patch of shotgun pellets. Last month I found a nice patch of 21 nuggets, 3.72 OZ. So then, the dig everything rule came into play. I got a lot of shotgun pellets, but amongst them I found this unusual nugget, which is the size, and shape of a pellet. wiley

I just finished working a 5 Oz patch that I named shotgun patch. Lol I got several hundred pellets and even more ball bearing type nugs. I'll be keeping this spot in my head for a spl what a great potential dryblowing patch it was!!!! Dig everything or go home !!

Found the 6000 to be deadly on small lead shot, The triangle is full of it, on a trip to Vic last year on a couple of outings I did clean up some . A 12 gauge shot gun cartridge load of BBs is around 70 pellets, N0 2s 140 and No 4s is 200 as a rough guide. There's lots spread around out there to find.

Fyi , For the record ... as it turned all the shotgun pellets nuggets came off a quartz reef uphill 500 m away...from which I then got a LOT of specimens like the one on the left in this photo

Those are beautiful nuggets, WC. Chunky gold that you can feel the weight in your hand when you dig them up. Lovely stuff, congratulations!

Yes. It's a great feeling when you're sorting the dirt and target from hand to hand, ( I don't use a scoop. Too slow.) and the target is starting too feel heavy in your hand, and you then know it's not just a shot gun shell. Then the doubts kick in. Is it a funny shaped musket ball that was melted in a bush fire? I like to feel it by rubbing it in my fingers to feel the shape of it before opening my hand to look at it! It all adds to the anticipation, and fun of finding them. wiley.

Hi Grubstake. I'd rather find the lonesome larger nugget. It's more fun digging them out, savouring every moment as you dig through the wash into the clay below it , then seeing it still lodged in the clay, giving the top of it a wash, then a photo of it in situ. Then slowly digging it out. Sometimes I'll take ages to dig one out, enjoying every moment of it, as it doesn't happen often enough. So I take my time to make the most of it!
