I have one of these in my crevicing toolkit.
In my opinion, far too narrow for a sand scoop.
I would look for something with a wider mouth for a sand scoop

One of these and drill some holes $9.95 and free shipping

or make your own Garrett Clone scoop $11.90 and free shipping
One of these and drill your own holes to make something that retails for $30 from Garrett

I was searching on ebay, but didnt think of feed scoop! Thanks, I will get one if them instead :)

Tried some plastic one's but they didn't last long ..................... this is an old aluminium fire extinguisher .................... cost $1.00 for the handle grip
Also a bigger unit as the price many were asking for a scoop was way out there.

Here's my Garrett clone cheese grater. Called a super feed scoop on fleabay. Not certain, but I think it may be a tad bigger than the Garrett. Bright blue, so won't be loosing it. Drilled about a hundred or so 10mm holes and voila!

That looks great ! Nice job mate. :)
If you want to rid the burrs around holes pass it over a flame

Excellent idea.
I was going to let the sand do that, but being a little green at heart I am more comfortable with your idea than the plastic ending up in little sea creatures bellies!
cheers mate.

just reporting back after a weekend away using the scoop on the beach. I would recommend anyone who is going to make their own scoop to drill 12-13mm holes. I found the 10mm holes to clog up a little and take a lot of time to exit the sand. I think a couple of mils extra diameter will sort it.

cheers
