Scored this ripper WW2 RAAF (hat badge i believe) the other day.

Whats the best way to finish cleaning it. So far ive only used water and my finger.

If it's not brittle you can use dish washing soap and water and a soft bristle tooth brush, then to preserve it get some Renaissance Wax...I myself use metal polish (Autosol)...but that is me and it may not be your choice of preserving. It's a beauty mate. :)

its not brittle, ive done a little cleaning just now with a toothpick, will get to some warm soapy water and and a soft bristle brush tonight when I get home.

Try olive oil and a paper towel. It will loosen the dirt and make the colour shine. :Y:
