Instead of using a dry blower dropping material from a great height into a large bucket lined up directly below. Heavies fall into bucket light meterial is taken away by a breeze ? I think this guy is doing something similar to reduce his material maybe ?

Does work GF though theres better and more efficient ways.
Dont need a real strong breeze as the action of the heavys both falling and hitting the bottom pan creates its own breeze as can be seen in your pic.

Unsure hey, isnt that a dry blower in the background but? You would want a better breeze than the one he has there!
Sure is ! Wonder why he is still doing what he is doing though and if it could be refined to the point of reducing heavies down to decent concentrates with out the need of a dry blower at all.

The material creating " its own breeze " is very interesting. Having some mechanical process in a breeezless enviroment would sure eliminate some uncontrollable variables.

Just to answer your question mate...the old timer doing the business there is proof that it certainly does work. From what my old grandfather related to me..they would repeat the process over a few times till they could clearly define the nuggets and fine stuff, and then pick out the larger bits and fines. Some had a dish or even a 'tub' of water which they would reuse over and over but not many as this sort of thing occurred where water was hard to come by.Perhaps if that is a dry-blower in the background, it may have been out of action.or whatever. :Y: great pic!

Yes winnowing!...could not for the life of me remember that! :8 :8 And when Pop explained it he asked me had I ever seen how they 'winnowed'[ wheat! :p ..As a 7or8 year-old I saw the connection strait away."YEAH".He said. "That's what dry blowi'ns all about".hehe...ah the old days! 8.(
