hi all; does any one have any experience with woody's upgrades. I still have my faithful 4500 but it does not get much use these days as I keep it as a backup. however if woody can give it a new lease on life I would love to take the old girl out again. thanks mark.

Before you get into the mods why not try one of the new generation coils? Minelab will not touch it after modding if it stops working, I'm not saying you shouldn't mod it, but these new Evolution and Elite range of coils sort of already give the GPX range a new lease of life, just my opinion.

HOW DARE YOU USE SUCH PROFANITIES IN THIS FORUM.....

just kidding, I've not had any mods done by woody, all i can say is he has been around for a long while now doing them, he has regular column in gold gems and treasure,
and advertising his mods, if the mods were a crock of .. he would not be still doing them...

its hard to find info from people with modded detectors saying the the best, but its also hard to find people with modded detectors saying they were heaps of sh@t either.

Ismael Jones is a well respected Minelab modder & states that in his opinion there is no need to mod a GPX model. For a modder to say that well that says it all to me. I wouldn't do it to a GPX on the back of that + they are still serviceable at Minelab unmodded if anything should go wrong down the track. Modded they aren't.
Heres a write up by Ismael with some points to consider:

Also a lot of people believe their modded machines are worth more but if you ask anyone that has tried to sell one you might hear a different story - I know one past member here had a hard time selling one. Dealers will also not take them for trade ins etc.

I think it's a matter of personal choice but it needs to be weighed up beforehand. I'd probably want to test drive a modded one first & have some guarantee if they don't live up to the modders claims.

As Heatho suggests - try one of the new coils first. They might put enough spark back into the 4500 at less cost & risk assuming that the 4500 is still worth something to you?

thanks chaps, this pretty much confirms my thoughts I figured if woody's or anyones mods were any good minelab themselves would have incorporated something similar into their machines by now. I have a coiltek elite which I haven't taken off the 5000 since I put it on, I like it that much. any comments from someone with a modded machine would be much appreciated but I think I have made up my mind. I will make an effort to take the old favourite out, I mean it she is still a bloody good detector. thanks, mark.

Ditto from me,

Don't do it as you won't be able to get it serviced by Minelab if it blows up !!

Get one of Rohan's new EVO coils, you won't look back !

a mate got this yesterday at 15 inches regards john

I have a 3500 and thought about an upgrade. I have the standard coil and a 14" mono elite. So can anyone suggest an elliptical coil to enhance the machine. I also have a 2300. Thanks, Rick

Rick nugget finder have just released a 9x14 evo i have used one on my 4500 and was very happy with the way it preformed ,the only thing I do not know how it would go on a 3500 as these new coils have different windings that work OK on the latter detector ,when I had a 3500 my got to coil was a 7x14 the old white coil there is also a 7x14 advantage or 7x12 regards john :)
