My geologist mate uses geomagnetic maps for areas and mentioned they are online. seems to be a bit hard to find, anyone got any clues as to where I can download them from?

They were very detailed for a map of this area. The maps could involve a "radio" type name like radiogram or similar

Hmmm I can't use geovic on my phone. I had not noticed magnetics on the program yet though. I don't think he got them from geovic, was a downloaded .PDF but I'll have to look when I can. Cheers bugler. This wet rain stuff sucks.

You could use a phone GPS app that allows you to save waypoints, like Hema Explorer etc., & put in areas of interest or plot an area outline or the centreline of a high magnetics area from the main maps when you can work from a desktop?
A screenshot example from mine using waypoints:

Using the GPS on my phone is pretty much impossible for me as no signal exists in the bush here at all. I need a proper handheld sattelite GPS to do this.

I can't even pinpoint on maps where tunnels, puddlers or shafts are due to this. I think in the near future, more towers are being installed to prevent the large black spot of the Yarra Valley.

I know I don't need towers for GPS, but it seems whenever the phone has no service, the GPS has no service on it either so it must not work straight off sattelites.

Strange one? I specifically got the Hema on mine to use the GPS in blackspots where Google Earth/Maps won't work. If you can get a GPS signal on a handheld your phones GPS should work unless you are using a web reliant program?

I'll download hema and take it out the bush n see if it gets any signal.

Sorry, should have said "the GPS on my phone has no service on it.."

Hopefully hema may use a different way to access the signal than the other GPS apps on my phone. It is a very early phone as well though, I could just need to update, I've come across a few basic issues with it that I shouldn't be having

Being an older phone it is probably the GPS receiver then not the GPS program/s. I've got a Samsung S3 & the GPS receiver is pretty good in it I guess. Does the job anyway.

GPS in my Samsung S2 is pretty bloody good. :)
Almost too accurate putting my in car GPS to shame at times. LOL

press print the screen bottom on a computer while on geovic with the magnetics layer on over the area you want a map/image of on your computer then paste it into a paint program on your computer that way it saves the map as a image and then you can print it off

if you can get to your local library computer you can do the above step from there then just send the image to your email or then download it onto your phone or a usb on the library computer :)

hope that helps
cheers HTY

Will someone point me to securing a hard copy metallurgenic map of Qld. please.

In Jack Lange's video series he uses them to great effect. And the Qld. Mines outfit stopped selling hard-copy on Aug. 1st. But he did use a NSW map. Any assistance would be appreciated. Bearing in mind my near nil skills with the digital map stuff.

Just use the snipping tool, [ if you use windows 7,8 or 10] saves a lot of time.
