I have been running my 24dd on my 4500, But a mate told me it would run better on one of the older machines without the digital display. But didn't elaborate any further. Can someone please help me. I can't find much info on these coils as they are not being made anymore.

I was quite surprised yesterday, I hit a mullock heap in kalgoorlie with the 24dd on 4500. Picked up a little iron piece that the garrett with the standard dd could not pick up. It was only about 6 inches deep. I thought the 24dd was only for big targets and was really surprised it outperformed my garrett with a small target as the coil is only 11" or so. So with this I have three questions:

Question 1: Am i wasting my time with the garrett?

Question 2: Am i wasting my time with the 24dd, as these hit the streets along time ago and maybe it got more depth with older detectors so its not really new ground like I thought. I was thinking what are the chances someone has swung a 24dd over this area and how will it perform compared to the newer coils such as 18" camo elite.

Question 3: What are the iron pieces I am picking up from the mullock heaps, Just seems to be too many to be pieces of tools and they are also quite chunky.

Thanks for any info, I am a newbie at this been doing it for 6 months and trying to do a crash course in Finding gold, but haven't been so lucky

What model Garrett
I think the 45 with a good choice of coils will out shine the garret ,If it was me I would be using a mono on the 45 or with the 24dd run it in mono and use the iron reject but not to high regards john :)

Hi John, I have a Garrett ATX with both 10 x 12 dd and the 15 x 20 mono, I also have Nuggetfinder advantage mono coils 16", 18" and 20" for the 4500 but haven't really tried them out. Do you think these mono's will do better than the 24dd?

if I was in WA kal i would just use the 45 with the mono coil 16 do not worry about the mullock heaps just get out and walk the ground . How long have you been detecting ,how old is the 45 regards john :)

Ive been detecting about 6 months, and the detector is about 18 months old. I bought it second hand with 8 coils but haven't had the chance to try them all out. I was trying to cover ground with max depth which is why I was using the 24dd, but in the end I wouldn't have a clue which is why I'm here. Lol

OK do you have a 11 commander mono,if not the 16 mono will do
can you tell me what setting you are running regards john :)

Yep, I have that coil. I usually try to run it on normal about 6rx gain. but if its to noisy i switch to enhance and a little higher rx gain

I have a new 45 I find normal to noisy use enhanced you must have a stable threshold
front switches rx mono , gb fixed ,enhanced, deep
BACK SREEN
VOL LIMIT 18
TUNE 90-105
MOTIOM SLOW
RX 9
AUDIO NORMAL
AUDIO TONE I LIKE 42 BUT I HAVE HEARING DAMAGE JUST PLAY WITH IT
STAB 9
SIGNAL19
TARGET VOL 12-13
RESPONCE I LIKE INV
TRACKING MED
I find these setting quiet good we have very noisy ground in the golden triangle and I use evo coils
just work slow keep your coil close to the ground ,the threshold must be stable use the green button to ground balance you may be able to run some setting a bit higher as long as it is stable good hunting regards john :)

I for got to mention do not have the threshold turned up to high ,just so you can hear it with out it braking in and out :Y:
