Hi there, It seems that from reading up on the site and getting exited from watching heaps of youtube that this is a way more popular pastime than I expected. I too have just spent my first little run up the bush around Noojee/Neerim with the kids on the weekend with a sieve and a pan. Got the same results as washing the gravel from my driveway (as expected). I know from reading up that West Gippsland has some good history , without being too forward I would love to hear of good experiences from around this region and others techniques they use. Same for the Eden area of NSW as we spend a bit of time up that way.
The Wal and Liz videos also have me exited about gemstones and am expecting arrival of the bible (Gemstones in Vic) for chrissy but would love to know if others have found anything in these areas.

Kind Regards

Hi Bluestreaker545, BS no offense for short.I knew a trainee in the PMG surname Tarr came from Noojee, back in the late 60's. Lost track of him through the ages. It's nice around that neck of the woods very old logging country. I see Gems are your thing, you've come to the right place for Gemologists we have a lot on board.
Have fun- enjoy your hobby.

I think he mean't to say BS545 for short. :) Welcome to the forum Bluestreaker545. :)

Hi there BlueStreak,
I've also been up and around the hills North of Warragul over the last 8 weeks checking out some spots. I've had a little bit of luck.
The kids have been really enjoying it (5 & 10 years old).
I've been making a "Bunnings Sluice" which I'll be keen to try out over summer holidays. I reckon it'll keep the kids more engaged before they lose interest. I plan to give it a try at a place where I first found some colour and see what I come up with?
Cheers

Hi TD,

Great to hear your having a bit of success, I too am in the process of making a sluice, lucky I have a mate who is a whiz in the sheetmetal game so I'm going for a river sluice which can convert to use when back home. Im gunna try targeting some creeks north of jindi this weekend and see what turns up. Im trying to find out if the Eden area is worth a look when I head up there after chrissy.
I got about two hours before the ipads came out with my kids the other day but hoping that will change when some yellow rocks appear.

Cheers BS545
