No, I wasn't the least bit offended by anything, just making a suggestion as to why such political correctness may have manifested itself in such a way in South Africa.
Anybody familiar with the race history of South Africa would know that under the apartheid system, color was everything. Every South African had to carry what was colloquially called a book of life. It was mandatory, and stated your race, eye color, skin color, parents race, ancestry etc. Apartheid only ended in the 1990's, so it may explain some sensitivity to anything that uses color as a descriptor. Maybe too, the sound similarity between the Afrikaans word for coffee "Koffie" and the highly offensive Afrikaans word for black people "Kaffir", may be too close to the bone for a society trying to reconcile its past?
By the way. For those of you who love Beef Jerky recipes, see if you can get hold of some genuine South African Biltong. I used to work with a South African guy who had a friend that made it here in Oz. It was excellent :Y: Apparently the best Biltong is made from Ostrich, so maybe Emu would turn out similar?
