Does anyone have a gold nugget I can buy to test a gpx5000 I'm really hesitant to buy this gpx because it's so cheap, but it's off a mate I trust.. How do I check to see if it's a Chinese rip off because I'm sure he doesn't even know

http://www.minelab.com/consumer/where-to-buy/buyer-beware you can also chech the serial number with Minelab, or take it into a Minelab dealer for verification, they'll know just by looking at it as there are several differences.

Call Minelab and get them to check the serial for you then ask how old the machine is
and make a comparison with whats for sale.

I would take it for a run as well and make sure it works as it should.

Call minelab in SA and get the serial checked.

If you can test it even better.

What should I look out for with test?

Be very careful as the fakes can look very close to the genuine' even the menu looks apart.
Side by side you can pick many things wrong but not if you don't know.

The fakes don't have a removable coil cover By memory this would be an easy one to look for first.

And the arm cuffs sort of look flat and square when the minelab is nice round/curved.

Fake battery's weigh nothing genuine are heavy.

The battery on my 5000 was fairly light
Compared to a gp battery.

The coil cover on the gpx 5000 dd come off
As well.

Can you get a nice clear photo of the 5000
Box on its side so we can see the text?

I would get the machine serial checked and
Ask an experienced 5000 user from your
Area to tune and ground balance it and to
Test it for you.

Don't rush in as yet.

I know what I would do?

I would get hold of it on Thursday and spend some
Money and go out with the coiltek boys on Friday
Because they hold training on Fridays unless something
Has changed.

Worse case its a 50 minute drive and the training is
Not expensive. You then walk away with more knowledge.

Get one of the trainers to set it up for you and they may
Test it as well. But get it checked with Minelab as well.
