Recently got down to Victoria for a quick 4 day hit & run detecting trip with fellow members Steveo1 & Lbg dreamer.
Despite the best laid plans it wasn't exactly a good trip gold wise or with other issues but still an enjoyable few days down south checking out some great areas & getting out with some good people.
The bad:
1. My canopy not arriving before the trip meant traveling with our gear in a "waterproof" roof rack bag in the back of the ute. Seemed like a good idea but let me tell ya they ain't waterproof when you stop in rain overnight. Wet clothes etc. on arrival wasn't great  especially when it continued to rain for 2 days. The important stuff I.e. detectors & gear was safely stowed on the back seat of the dual cab.
2. Once the rain stopped enough to have a swing my 5000 decided to chuck in the towel. Constant EMI noise & nothing could stop it. It's now with Minelab for investigation.
I'll let the other blokes fill in the other issues if they want but mine weren't the only hiccups along the way.

The good:
1. Plenty of laughs & good company.
2. Mrs Steveo1's muchly appreciated home cooked meals every night. A top lady who spoiled us rotten.
3. Stoppsy/aussie prospector (https://www.prospectingaustralia.com/forum/profile.php?id=914) coming to the rescue & loaning me his 5000 for the next 2 days pretty much saving the trip for me. Great bloke & very knowledgeable - runs hands on training days if anyone is looking to do one.
4. Getting down to Victoria for the first time ever & also, despite the setbacks, actually finding a little bit of gold. Nothing to jump up & down about but gold.

The gold (or what I got anyway):
My first Victorian "match head" bit:

A nice piece of quartz with a sweet sounding signal but no visible gold?:

The quartz once broken up:

Overall a great trip & good to finally cross the border for a quick look. Interesting place & lots to take in. Will hopefully get back down there again for a bit longer next time.

Hey Matt, I use a bush ranger rack sack in the back of the Ute and never have water intrusion issues, have had it on the roof of patrol in pouring rain and everything inside was dry. Nice tiny nugget though, I love the tiny stuff, always builds the confidence up!

Yeah it was fine while we were traveling but the water must have somehow seeped in overnight when we stopped to camp. Not sure how cause it looks pretty watertight but most of the gear on the bottom was damp. Looked all good/dry when we pulled up. No matter - will have the canopy on next trip. :D
Very faint signal on that small one - under a lot of leaf litter but not deep. Was good to crack a bit in Vic.

Well done Matt, bummer about the detector but at least you came home with some. Good on Stoppsy for lending you his, sounds like a top bloke.

Yeah Stoppsy is a top bloke mate! After the 5000 went bonkers I would have been relegated to pick boy if not for him selflessly giving up his machine for a couple of days as he could have been out having a swing too.
Might be a good thing though - I should now get it back from Minelab in tiptop condition ready to go.

Was a great trip still :)
With great company !
And just when I thought I had a pick swinger for me
Stoppsy being my great mate that he is !
Came to the rescue of the damsel in distress :D

Mate sometimes you just have to wear a frock
To get that hard to find gold :D
And there's nothing like the breeze blowing up ya frock
In hot weather anyway
You told me that :D
