Unusual lid, hoping its gold!

Found this lid thingy and hoping someone may know what its from. Got it near a Railway line along with a few old house bits and pieces...a coat hook, door knob and belt buckle. Possibly railway worker shacks and/or miners camp previously but now grass, walking track, drainpipes and 150 years of sundry litter where located. Will be hard work to try and find the rest of it.

I thought maybe a snuff box lid but the pierced hole makes me think not. Dont know if the offset hinges have any special function or meaning. At first I thought it may have been made of gilded silver but the gold bits are under the tarnish and light cleaning has revealed more gold rather than removing it.

Gold won't tarnish like that, I'd say it's brass.

Will be getting it xrf tested in the next couple of weeks so will get its exact composition then.

Lots of similarities, its even got the same crumpled appearance.
