Ugly ring, but an interesting idea!

Browsing around I came across this link.

Is shows a couple of examples of cabochons made from quartz and gold specimens.

The ring made of one of those cabs, encased in natural nuggets, is pretty ugly, but is a spectacular piece!

Yep, but I wouldn't mind one of those cabs, maybe mounted as a pendant for the wife.

The cab itself is really pretty, with the gold delicately interlaced through the quartz, but that clunky-looking, heavy mount spoils the whole effect, IMHO.

I'd crush it and pan it off, lol. Then get a nice ring made out of the gold, maybe even stick a sapphire in it.

There are a couple of pics of the cabs at the link, and they are much better without the ugly nugget ring!

I would love to have a play with some cabs of that stuff..... Now just to find some
