Hi all I have a idea of making a trommal out of 2 or 3 steel rims and a frame and yes I know that it may weight a bit but my idea is to drive to the gold fields dig a small hole and classify all the material and run it through a sluice for smaller bits less than 1 cm squares anything bigger go's on the metal detect pile to be scanned for gold . then return all of the dirt back to where I dug it up from I'm hoping to make 2 or 3 different size of mesh.

They do a similar thing to make compost trommels, usually with pushbike rims and light mesh. You can probably use motorbike rims if you want something a bit heavier duty, even the alloy ones would be strong enough.
