A lot of different minerals up there Kawman, one of the most interesting areas in NSW, Torrington especially. I'm heading up for probably 2 weeks sometime in Spring to do some Emerald hunting and for any other interesting gems/minerals too. Oh and Sapphs, not coming home without Sapphs.
Torrington sounds great.. I will check it out sometime late next summer after giving barrington a good going over in spring... I have been very buisy rebuilding my old ute from the chassis up and gathering some good gear for prospecting and studying a lot of stuff about gemstones that will help out in the field... my old ute has been with me for about 10 years already and should keep me out of trouble until I die now that it has been restored.. old datsuns never die and are very cheap to run and maintain.. bring on the warmer weather..
Not in NSW, but at Moota mines (South Australia) there's plenty tourmaline scattered around the place. Some just under the surface in the overburden and it's mainly in Quartz. They were more worried about getting the cooper when mining.
